Two of our Asia Specialists recently returned from India. With Elise covering Rajasthan and Liz travelling across southern India, here’s what they had to say.

1. Where in India did you go?

Elise: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Samode, Jodphur, and Udaipur

Liz: Southern India (including Kerala)

2. Favourite city

Elise: Udaipur

Liz: Cochin – Colonial History – Viewing the giant fishing nets on a sunset harbour cruise

3. Favourite experience

Elise: A jeep Safari through the villages in Samode

Liz: Riding the toy train with the locals at 6000 feet above sea level between Ooty and Connoor – viewing the scenery through the open windows and colourful towns below.

4. Tastiest dish

Elise: Lamb Rogan with Roti bread. It really is much better in India!

Liz: The Dosa, a savoury crispy South India pancake, often eaten for breakfast

5. Favourite hotel

Elise: Umaid Bhawan (this is a Palace, but it still qualifies as a hotel though!).

Liz: The Coconut Lagoon – a scattering of villas on an island full of little waterways and surrounded by miniature cows!

6. Funniest moment

Elise: The Camel ride at Osian or the impromptu disco put on by the Camel camp’s owner Reggie.

Liz: Local villagers fishing my friends’ sunglasses out of the backwaters of Kerala.

7. Best view

Elise: It’s hard to pick a favourite view with so many amazing places to visit, but looking out over the strikingly blue city of Jodhpur from the hilltop Mehrangarh Fort was the most memorable for me.

Liz: The vast tea plantations en route to Cochin.

8. Don’t leave home without and be prepared for

Elise: Dont leave home without an extra memory card for your camera and be prepared to need it on every corner!

Liz: A Sun-hat and mosquito repellent, some serious bartering in the markets!
