| Words by Ashley Diterlizzi |

From dancing robots to food that literally burns, Asia is home to some of the most unique restaurants in the world. Pack your appetites, it’s time to take on our top restaurants you have to visit in Asia.

Ninja Akasaka

Tokyo, Japan

Enjoy a meal and join the ranks of the ninja at Tokyo’s Ninja Akasaka. Your ninja guide will greet you at the entrance before leading you down the treacherous dark path to your table, teaching you the ways of the ninja in the process. Ninjas are highly trained so you’ll be digging into your set menu at the comfort of your table before you know it! We recommend making a reservation in advance as tables fill fast.

Trojan Fairy

Beijing, China

Dine in the pitch dark in Beijing’s very own dark restaurant. Waiters wear night-vision goggles but diners are left to rely on their other senses as they dig in to Japanese and western set menus. This is no doubt best experienced with someone you trust in the dark.

Robot Restaurant

Robot Restaurant

Tokyo, Japan

Famous for its bizarre pop-culture laser and robot show, Tokyo travellers can enjoy their Japanese-style meals at the Robot Restaurant. There are a number of meal options to choose from at the world-class entertainment show.

Bugs Café

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Not for the faint hearted, this Cambodian tapas and cocktail bar is on a mission to prove that bug tapas are delicious! Dig in to crispy crickets, seasoned spiders and grilled grasshoppers. Do you have what it takes? If you’re not sure you can stomach insects, the café also offers insect-free meals.

Fried Spiders at Bugs Cafe

New Lucky Restaurant

Gujarat, India

Dine with the dead in India’s New Lucky Restaurant. Dubbed the graveyard restaurant, it’s located on the site of an old cemetery. Management chose to place tables around the exposed coffins, rather than remove them. Each morning the gravestones are cleaned and adorned with fresh flowers.

Cabbages and Condoms

Bangkok, Thailand

It might sound like a weird combination at first but this Bangkok restaurant serves delicious Thai cuisine while promoting better understanding of family planning. The walls are decorated with condoms from all over the world. Don’t worry, the food here is guaranteed not to get you pregnant.

Fire Ramen

Menbaka Fire Ramen

Kyoto, Japan

Just when you thought a bowl of ramen couldn’t get any more amazing, the chefs at Menbaka have gone and added fire! After placing a bowl of ramen in front of you, the chef adds liquid fire to the bowl. Staff will capture the moment for you on your phone or cameras too. You won’t be able to make a reservation here and guests take an average of 30 minutes to finish their meal.

Modern Toilet Restaurant

Taipei City, Taiwan

Have you ever found yourself wishing you could enjoy a meal seated upon the John? Well, now you can! Taiwan’s Modern Toilet Restaurant combines the comforts of the bathroom with dining. Sit upon a toilet seat while you dig in to dishes served in miniature toilets and toilet parts. You can also pay extra to have your drink served in a urinal!
